PACHAMANKA GROUP

The group Pachamanka emerged in Chile in the late 1970s from a cultural environment where music, poetry, and social activism were closely intertwined. From the outset, Pachamanka saw itself not only as a musical group but as a cultural project that expresses the diversity of Latin America both musically and humanly.

Influenced by the musical traditions of Chile and Latin America, the group blends folkloric roots with contemporary world music. Alongside Andean instruments such as the quena, zampoña, and charango, guitars, percussion, and classical instruments shape Pachamanka's distinctive sound. Their music moves between folklore, canto nuevo, poetic song, and modern Latin American fusion.

Under the direction of Luis Parra Madariaga, Pachamanka developed into an important voice of Chilean exile culture. Due to the political situation in Chile, the group continued its artistic work in exile from 1981 onwards – first in Uruguay, later in Brazil, Spain, and finally in Austria. During this time, numerous concerts and cultural projects were created that understood music as an expression of memory, identity, and cultural dialogue.

Since the 1990s, Vienna has been the artistic center of the group. From here, Pachamanka has performed in numerous European countries and established itself as a fixture of the Latin American music scene in German-speaking countries.

Over the years, Pachamanka has performed on renowned stages and in important concert halls throughout Austria, including the Vienna Konzerthaus, the Musikverein Wien, the Haus der Musik, the Musikverein Graz, as well as at numerous international festivals and cultural events across Europe. The group combines musical quality with cultural depth and understands music as a bridge between people and cultures.

In addition to his concert performances, Pachamanka has been intensively involved in cultural and educational activities for decades. Particularly noteworthy are his children's and school projects, literary and musical programs, and intercultural events that build bridges between Latin America and Europe.

With their music, Pachamanka tells stories of migration, memory, hope, and cultural diversity. The group represents an artistic journey between worlds – rooted in Latin America and yet open to new musical encounters.
